Welcome

We look forward to welcoming you to Bailongo 2011. Now in it’s 9th year, Bailongo is a vibrant and friendly tango festival set in the beautiful City of Edinburgh. This year we can offer you:

  • 14 themed workshops at graduated levels.
  • Three nights of dancing to the best music we can bring you from local and international DJs.
  • A new and unique Saturday night event - The Bailongo Grand Milonga, with many surprises.
  • The Atemporal Tango Lounge—the heart of the festival where you can relax, dance, eat, drink and socialise between workshops.

Venue

This year the whole festival is under one roof. You will be able to take workshops and dance the nights away on sprung floors and with views of Edinburgh Castle
Dance Base, 14-16 Grassmarket, EH1 2JU.

Dancers & Teachers

Jenny Frances & Ricardo Oria

www.rumbosdetango.com
Jenny & Ricardo have performed and taught in the UK, in Europe, the USA and in Argentina. Their 10 years of teaching together gives them a connection and fluidity in presentation and explanation, which makes the experience for the student fun and informative. They dance with an immediacy, that allows them to express both the serious and playful aspects of the dance. Their style of dancing is rooted in traditional Buenos Aires tango, where subtlety in interpretation and connection come first, and improvisation is everything. They are based in Edinburgh, UK.

Maria Mondino & Ismael Ludman

www.tangodinamia.com.ar
Ismael & Maria  are a fresh, dynamic and energetic couple. Their performances show pure simplicity as well as a complex and personal interpretation of the music, both in traditional and modern tango. As teachers they combine the precision of the technical and mechanical perspective of the movements with the abstract world of sensations and feelings. In their classes they start from the strong and simple basics to move forward to complexity in an organic way. They understand a pedagogic experience as a "body-mind"-interchange between students and teachers.

Kim & David Benitez

www.tangomovement.com
David & Kim Benitez met in Buenos Aires in 2005 and have been based in London since 2007 with their school Tango Movement. They are well-known for their clear & precise teaching with an emphasis on technique & connection and are regularly invited to teach and give exhibitions in London and around the country. David is a graduate of San Martin Dance School and was a dancer with Tango por Dos. Kim lived in Buenos Aires studying tango with the world's most famous teachers. Their passion for tango and teaching is evident in all their classes. They dance with elegance, precision and a natural chemistry.
