WELCOME
We invite you to celebrate the flourishing of Argentine Tango in the UK at Bailongo! 2009.
Bailongo! is a vibrant tango festival set in the beautiful City of Edinburgh.
This year we can offer you:
- 14 workshops at graduated levels
- All day-time events and the Opening Milonga to be held at Scotland’s National Centre for Dance, with beautiful dance studios throughout.
- The Atemporal Tango Lounge—the heart of the festival where you can relax, dance, eat, drink and socialise between workshops.
- Three nights of dancing, including The famous Edinburgh Winter Ball with performances and live music
WORKSHOP INFO
In the spirit of tango as a social and improvised dance, in all Bailongo! workshops there will be a policy of changing partners.
Within this structure, those who book in couples will be given as much opportunity as possible to practice together.
After six sell-out years, we recommend that you book early. By booking before 20th November you can buy great value passes to get the most out of the weekend.
BEGINNERS COURSE
Alongside the main workshop programme, we also offer an intensive 3-hour beginners course split over the two days of the festival. This is for those who wish to try tango for the first time or who would like to go back to basics. The course will be given by Toby Morris at The Counting House in W. Nicolson St.
Part 1 Saturday 11.30am – 1.00pm
Part 2 Saturday 2.00pm – 3.30pm
ARTISTS
Leandro Palou and Romina Godoy
www.tangosoul.co.uk
After such a popular visit to Bailongo in 2007, we are happy to welcome back Leandro Palou and Romina Godoy. Leandro and Romina are steeped in the great traditions of Argentine Tango of their home-town Buenos Aires, but are also at the cutting edge of the latest trends of modern Tango and contemporary tango-dance fusions. Having danced Tango all over the world professionally for more than 10 years, in 2006 they began their partnership, performing mainly in Europe where they found immediate acceptance by the audiences. They are now based in London where they have established a top class Tango School and performance group. They are committed to offering the highest standards in teaching and performance.
Mariano Bielak and Paula Gurini
www.paulaguriniymarianobielak.blogspot.com
We are pleased to welcome Mariano & Paula to Scotland for the first time. Mariano and Paula have been dancing together for about 7 years, studying with different masters and travelling to different parts of the world. They combine traditional and modern dynamics with the aim of leaving their own print on the dance. They look for simple possibilities or expression which allow them to interpret the spirit of the music. They are interested in social dance. The embrace is the meeting place, created and shared by two and influenced by the music in those three minutes of dance. In their teaching they are interested in working with basic and simple elements which allow you to dance comfortably.
Jenny Frances and Ricardo Oria
www.rumbosdetango.com
Jenny and Ricardo are pleased to be once again teaching at Bailongo! after another exiting year, teaching and performing in many different places. They have a strong foundation of study for their dance, from which they build creatively, moved and inspired by the music and the subtle yet powerful conversation within the embrace. They use their extensive teaching experience to offer the best they can to their students, understanding the responsibility of teaching tango dance and approaching it with joy. Jenny and Ricardo emphasise the importance in learning tango of gaining a sense of your partner, a sense of yourself and a sense of the music. Not only teaching ‘what’, but also ‘how’ and prioritising steps that are useful in social dancing.
