Bailongo!
A Celebration of Argentinian Tango in the UK
Edinburgh: 5th - 7th December 2008
Presented by Rumbos de Tango
|
Welcome
We invite you to celebrate the flourishing of Argentine Tango in the UK at Bailongo! 2008.
Bailongo! is a vibrant tango festival set in the beautiful City of Edinburgh.
This year we can offer you:
-
15 workshops at graduated levels
-
The Atemporal Tango Lounge - the heart of the festival where you can relax, dance, eat, drink and socialise between workshops.
-
Three nights of dancing, including The famous Edinburgh Winter Ball. This year the ball will feature live music from Quinteto El Despues.
Workshop Information
-
In the spirit of tango as a social and improvised dance, in all Bailongo! workshops there will be a policy of changing partners. Within this structure, those who book in couples will be given as much opportunity as possible to practice together.
-
After five sell-out years, we recommend that you book early. By booking before 21st November you can buy great value passes to get the most out of the weekend.
Workshops last 1.5 hours and there are 15 minutes between workshops this year. We recommend allowing spaces in your day to make the most of the practicing, relaxing and socialising opportunities at the Tango Lounge.
Beginners' Course
Alongside the main workshop programme, we also offer an intensive 3-hour beginners course split over the two days of the festival. This is for those who wish to try tango for the first time or who would like to go back to basics. This course will be given by Toby Morris.
Part 1 Saturday 10.30am-12pm ( Counting House, West Nicolson Street)
Part 2 Sunday 12.00pm-1.30pm (Dance Base, Grassmarket) |

Artists: Teachers and Musicians
David Benitez and Kim Schwartz
www.tangomovement.com
David Benitez turned to tango when his ballet company danced in a show with tango diva, Mora Godoy. Since then, he has toured with many top tango companies. Kim Schwartz moved to Buenos Aires for four years to study with some of the world’s most renowned maestros, perform in tango shows and teach. Her time in Buenos Aires has given her the deepest respect for and understanding of the tango, its culture and traditions. David and Kim have been based in London since 2007 and have become recognised as one of London’s leading couples. They teach and dance with elegance, precision and a natural chemistry. |
Eduardo Bozzo and Caroline Pope
www tangoalchemy.co.uk
Eduardo Bozzo learnt the Tango in his native Buenos Aires about fifteen years ago. He learnt the passion for this dance from some of the old maestros and and tango legends like of Elvira & Virulazo, Mayoral & Elsa Maria, Rodolfo & Maria Cieri. He has been performing and teaching tango for more than a decade in Argentina and worldwide. He has been based in Bristol for the last 5 years and teaches around all the southwest of the UK (including regular lessons in Bournemouth and Southampton). He met his dance partner Caroline Pope two years ago on the dance floor. She has a background in sports and has leant the dance in UK and from maestros in Argentina. Since that first dance they have taught and performed together here and abroad.

Jenny
Frances and Ricardo Oria
www.rumbosdetango.com (this site)
Since beginning to work together in 2002, Jenny and Ricardo have
performed and taught all over the UK, in Europe and in Argentina.
They have developed a reputation as one of the leading tango couples
in the UK. Jenny and Ricardo seek the timeless elements
of tango; always creative and in tune with the dance's improvised
nature. They have worked extensively with masters such as los Dinzel
in Buenos Aires to further develop their dance and teaching.

El Despues Quintet
www.eldespues.com
Founded in 2004, the El Después Quintet presents a repertoire almost entirely dedicated to new compositions. The two well known founding members, argentines Victor Hugo Villena (bandoneon) and Alejandro Schwarz (guitar, compositions and arrangements) have surrounded themselves with premier league musicians: violinist Cyril Garac, pianist Ivo De Greef and double bassist Bernard Lanaspèze. In the quintet formation they are able to deeply explore Alejandro Schwarz’s music in all its rich detail whilst never ceasing to push at the borders of the renewal of traditional tango music.
